| So, I'm sitting at my desk in Buenos Aires (Argentina if you are geographically challenged) and the Bat Phone rings. The Bat Phone is a black phone that rings directly to our home when you dial a US number. It's really a Vonage line, but I think Bat Phone sounds cooler...
Anyhow...the Bat Phone rings and it's my son (who shall remain nameless). He's in his car calling me on his cell phone. He's on his way to see his wife at her place of work and suddenly gets to urge to take her flowers. (I have no idea how much trouble he was in to need to do this, but obviously, duty calls). It's in a part of town he's not familiar with, so...you guessed it... he calls the Bat Phone...aka Google Hotline.
"Dad, can you GoogleMap this address"? Now, I'm familiar with MapQuest as a verb, but I guess I'm a little behind the times so it takes me a second to get on board.
"OK. Now what?" I ask.
"Find out what florists are nearby."
"HUH??" I say as I start looking around for some "find business" link. This, too, was a new concept for me, but one I was finding much to my liking. Soon I am relaying the address of the nearest florist. I ask him where he is at, and locate him on the map (unfortunately I can't lock onto his vehicle in realtime, but this is still cool) and guide him turn by turn to the door of the florist.
Somehow that fact the he can call me, 5,000 miles away, to get an address of a business that's about 2 miles from where is currently driving seems kinda ironic. Maybe even a bit pathetic. But cool. Way cool.
The tables were turned a few years ago when Linda and I were driving in North Carolina and had car troubles on the road. A quick cell phone call to the aforementioned son, quickly revealed the nearest PepBoys auto parts store. It, too, came with driving instructions. Not quite as cool as the Bat Phone to Argentina, but clearly planted the seed.
So, maybe this could be a new business. "Google hotline...what's your crisis?"

| It turns out that the interesting thing about the last post wasn't the what. It was the who.
